i haven't seen tiff in forever.  apparently she says i've been mysterious lately.  so we had drinks and caught up.  i didnt waste my reservation @ dburke ktichen.  the hotel still smelled like paint but the crowd was bustling.  it seems that new restsaurant hype creates an influx of asians at openings.  too diligently sitting in their daytime cubicles reading foodblogs and prepping for that nights meal.  im guilty, but connors was the one that recommended it, i didnt read it online.  he said it was hudson hog night on wednesdsay, but on my wednesday, it was sweetbread and veal night.  regardless. delicious.

cool soho ambience.  with a station in the middle of the room that DAVID BURKE and other chefs/waiters actually work at.  and thats the appeal of the fat chefs  friendly. jovial. and the weight speaks for itself in terms of liking good food.  the food was delicious.  i'd go back.

if i say i don't like white girls.  how does one just automatically think of her one token asian friend and automatically assume its a good fit?  and how does she think that her husbands hs ex gf is going to be a match for me?  and how come smart girls dont ever apply brains to stuff other than typical accomplishment?  do they not see value in accomplishing a good match and it's shallow relative to the other life saving things they do with their life like churning numbers at a bank or going through piles of law paperwork?  right-oh!

y is it that the dorkier u are, the more content with the little things in life u are.  shallow temptation doesn't get in the way.  however sometimes intellectual rigidity may cause an inflated ego to be very stubborn.  ok. tangent.  completely thinking about something else.  anyways.

email threads recap the previous nights events.  this time. it's almost as if it were the opposite way around in the opposite order.  the emails were recapped by the night and the recapped by the emails.  doesn't make sense unless you're on the thread.  showed up for midday soju and enjoyed today's thread of 100 emails.  here are some soundbytes.

1. "lewis is the reason i'm successful" - mister felix.

2. "I'll take you there."

3. "ben and lewis seem girl crazy" - DD2.

4. "OUTDUEL BEN"

5. Almost forgot, from your colleague:  "I'm gonna break that perfect nose of yours"

6. "a bra...1 hand.  i'm so fast she won't even know it came off.  no joke."

7. "that was part 2 of the conversation...battle of the front clasps....."

8. ben walks in...."lewis what are you wearing? what is that paul bunyan look?  is that really a vest? i told you he has a problem with casual clothes".

9. lewis takes sungs hand and puts it on his abs

"wow" - sung
"sung likes abs and arms" - me
"hey. i do ironman" - ben points to his body.

10. omg your mom is the blonde with the spiky hair?  2 generations of drinking.  that's crazy.

11. omg...who in their right mind pours poktanju as a cocktail for sipping? that's hardcore.hahaha...

12. am i category 1 (sounds like a player) or category 2 (really is a player) guy?

been watching so much mbc star audition....it's really time we start band "molla molla"...bingo come back already!

it turns out that it wasn't a hernia.  it was just a skin infection.  that hurts. a lot.  im just prone to cysts. and i really want this to go away now!  so the matter of fact way that i speak about doctor visits and symptoms and the way in which i talk to the doctor makes me wonder if 1. did she think i was flirting with her? 2. i know im opinionated on a lot of things but should i have just gone down the doctor path 7 years ago?  im not scared of anatomy and i remember being good at it.  not trying to say too smart.  maybe i was just greedy.  could i do it now? again?  3. i have an opinion doesn't mean im complaining.  "i don't like earth tones."

im definitely going to make it a point to watch that adam sandler movie where he pretends to be married with children as a prop to get girls.  cuz apparently im a natural with children.  at a table of 22 people.  there were 9 married couples.  1 seriously dating and 1 guy alone but close to taking the plunge.  1 married girl without the hubby.  and then there was me.

married people love talking about single people.  people with kids don't really listen to the conversation because they're tending to the children.  and single people can't really have a full conversation with couples for too long because the stale conversation drives ME crazy.  so round up whoever is down to hit the bar and go hard.

saigon grill was a reunion.  and couples ask "are u dating someone. why not" ....and more couples ask other couples "don't u have single friends u can introduce?"  and then the ones that have friends have lists of their single guy friends they want to introduce.

i miss jilly. met aidan for the first time.  rob and mike is a toss up for happiest chinaman. and ppl still think im a korean.

i know it's chungs favorite place.  chomo talks about the quality of sushi too.  it's a much better choice than heading to midtown east for the yasuda's seki's and a gari's of the nyc sushi world. but im a spoiled eater.  i'm picky about giving thumbs up to restaurant joints and not to mention, i've had the dishes from their original regions.  which makes it tough for me to really give great reviews on the imported selection of cuisine that ushi has to offer.  its a top of the line for what u can get here, but just not the stuff from japan.  just not the stuff that i could willingly pay an arm and a leg for that makes it worth it.  don't order the fugu unless u're in japan at an all fugu restaurant.  i've never had baby river eel.  that was pretty good.  hotate is my fav but u its too similar to simple izakaya hotate anywhere in asia. i can't remember much else.  but company was good.  so that makes up for it.

cheers.

perilla was just ok.  trendy casual nyc village restaurant boasting top chef season 1 winner harold D. the food for me was what i fear when eating out at western eateries.  the rabbit app was not bad for rabbit. but it tasted like chicken so why not have chicken at half the exotic taste and fare.  why fight so hard against the "gaminess" of the animal.  unless u just want the natural gaminess to be the star flavor of the dish.  and the duck meatballs kind of didn't have any taste at all.  i wanted to reach for the red pepper flakes and that egg yolk mixture just made me want to eat a chicken meatball yakitori skewer and dipping it in egg yolk.  i can't remember dessert.  i didnt have the wine.  and i just drank tito's and soda's. company was good, our basta pasta group has grown fond of each other outside the dining establishments and ...and...lets see where all this goes...

i should stop eating out so much.

AALDEF W LAWYERS AND LAWYERS AND LAWYERS AND MR HANDSOME.

there a reason why law firms are only named after the names of the partners.  credibility.  trustworthiness.  etc.  imagine if a law firm was called pinnacle lawyers or apex law firm.  i guess it sounds overly cheesy and shady.  so if that's going to to be the name of the firm, the culture of the the law world is exactly the same.  sterile. boring. politically correct and wanna be credible.  so all conversations start "oh, nice meeting you.  what firm are you from?  where did you finish school?  oh i heard they have a great program there..."  whether you're talking to on or off hour, with a boss or a stranger or the random waiter in the corner, there's absolutely zero charisma of natural persona.  is this what people willingly sign up for?  hi, lets all attend these gala events for the resume and lets all wear the same outfit.  dark suit white shirt dark tie. i just happened to put on a grey suit.  so i stood out.  and i just so happened to put on a sweater cuz it was cold and i stood out.  then i put on a tweed coat and i stood out.  so i turn around and there's mister dcho saying "yo, i keep thinking we keep getting double takes".  seriously though, i don't want any double takes at this event.  just leave me alone and let me bid on my vera wang bedding.  of course i got outbid by the small number of women in the room who also realized that the vera wang bedding, 2 pairs of sunglasses and whatever else in the gift set was a steal for 450.  and that's what i bid. and got out bid.  someone beat me out 500 bucks. GAH.

somehow we ended up @ tao.

and the quotes of the night "i look more handsome with glasses or i used to be more handsome", "i am such a catch....", "those girls should be ashamed to be hanging out with those guys, we are so much better catches...."
