when i had gotten back to taipei...shrimp was already in town.  i guess the detox wasn't going to start until the next week...添好運,spot , 大鵰燒烤, frank, chess, 太和殿...and then i got sick...while they went out on sunday night...

every hongkie will have their personal favorite wonton noodle joint but it seems the best wonton noodles all spawn from mak woon chi who brought the noodles over from guangzhou china.  there's a few maks out there, the son, the daughter, the grandson the disciple etc all started their own tasty versions of the original masterpiece...  and when michelin started giving out cheap eat stars 何洪記 got one.  and in my opinion, when cheap eats get a michelin and move to a mall....it just ain't the same.

and so before i left...i had to get my fix.   i went back to the original...麥奀

next time....im going to have to try mak siu kee...opened by the grand daughter.  locals seem to choose this as their favorite.

george just so happened to be in my hotel until the last night because..."i wasn't expecting to stay an extra day, and the jw marriott was fully booked so i had to move to the upper house."  yea - upper house george.  next bottle is on you buddy.  hahahaah.  good times @ three monkeys...and raiding that upper house fridge...

she had to smoke.  and she told me we needed to have a talk.  so she pulled me into the back room.  and she smoked.  it was hot.  i sweated.  "i just want her to be happy.  don't worry...sunglasses for life"  #revebyrene

再興燒臘 - JOY HING is indeed JOYOUS.  of the two to choose from, i chose the non michelin starred, hole in the wall, packed to the brim roast goose joint in wan chai.  3 plates of meat...two bowls of rice...and a lot of chili sauce...for a midday 3pm snack FTW!  (they say the other joint is less oily...but nothing a little champagne by the pool didn't solve afterwards)

after a big fiscal event, monday nights in asia are always fun.  even if the market tanks on monday during the day...the wall street updates you get on your phone during dinner is even more fun.  especially when you're dining at "the sports club" and the host brings a wine that needs 45 minutes to breathe.   so what to drink in the meantime?

i'd give the sports club another go.  too much competition in HK for a members only club to not have good food.  we probably just ordered wrong.  too much fried food.  and no steamed fish.  and no soup.

"are people panicking?"  - we knew china was in trouble since last year...but a country so cash rich can just keep everything afloat and mask the issue...until today's currency devaluation.  everything just happeened so fast...and now someones in trouble....LOI for 118 59st....wow...

the beaches in hong kong are dismal.  theres this yellow hue of humidity and whatever else draped over everything and the sticky heat is unbearable that even if you could stand walking on the rough sand and wading into the dirty water, you wouldn't want to leave air-conditioning...not to mention getting a cab back home is hard enough.  why go to repulse bay anyway?  lime wood isn't worth it.

this looks better than it tastes....can't taste the oyster anymore.

steve was drunk last night and whined the whole night about missing dre.  "dreeee, where are you...i miss you..."  and so while i was out getting a haircut for our hair duel and then dinner with the family...steve was rolling around in bed recovering from a hangover and waiting for dre.  before heading to this place... MOTT 32.  IBERICO CHAR SIU.  personally...i like the original better.  higher end tenderloin just isn't char siu anymore.  and then look at the price tag...OUCH.

after 2 bottles of sake

three monkeys!

this took an hour....
and then it was time for room service champagne and shots and 福州炒飯。 and an orgy.

meeting the grandma and having dinner with the parents is a bigger deal to everyone else than it was to us.  didn't we just go on a trip with the parents to macau last november?  didn't i have dinner with the parents alone in korea?  it's really nothing new...but in hindsight...i guess it is a big deal...maybe i should get used to eating vegetarian.

...and this is how we start a trip to HK.  a HUGE RAINBOW on the way to the airport.  only to find out that the flight i booked was 8am and not 8pm.  hahaha...all steve and i did was look at each other and laugh.  OMG...of course this would happen to us.  with a smile and a wink...and a cutesy flirtatious whine to the lady at the desk...we got on an earlier flight.  made it to our hotel then made it to the hotel sav party then the bar party and then made it back at 5am for a ridiculous amount of room service.  night number one complete....WOWZERS.

it was supposed to be a good day.  after a solid work out in the morning, a full 2 week detox and i was looking foward to popping open this bottle for steves dads birthday at lunch.  i carefully carried it to meet steve, and then from his clinic to the car, the bottle fell thru the bag.  실망이야.  #pomerol.

typhoon means party time.  but this time, souledar only allowed for one party night and a bit of trouble getting home.  good thing i left the bar early while cabs were still available (cuz i had a conference call at 4am...which didn't wake up for...)....and with no food at home,  i stayed indoors starving until monday morning morning and saw the aftermath wreckage...
