rites of passage...

if u were to want to enter the inner ring of my family whether it be friend, bf/gf, husband/wife, business partner etc etc...

there are a few idiosyncratic rites of passage that are specifically blatant to my family.  BEEF TENDON.

i spent the entire morning research health benefits of beef tendon.....

Q: Can you provide the nutritional analysis for beef tendon?

Preston Wang, Marietta

A: Beef tendon is used in some Vietnamese, Korean and Thai dishes,
but this question had me stumped — I couldn't find the nutrient
analysis after searching several databases, including that of the USDA.
So I asked registered dietitian Caroline Margolis with the National
Cattlemen's Beef Association for help. She said: "There is no data on
the nutritional value of beef tendon, but we do know the tendon is made
up of tough, fibrous protein, so while it is very high in protein, it
is probably not a highly nutritious food." Tendons are the fibrous
bands that attach muscle to bone, and cooking the tendon will cause
some softening, but it is "tremendously hard to break down the fibers
due to its need for strength."

Collagen is ”a fibrous scleroprotein in bone and cartilage and
tendon
and other connective tissue”, and apparently Vitagen Collagen contains
500mg of collagen. So this product, aside from its lactobacillus
culture that is good for our digestive system, is good in supplementing
collagen to help build cartilage and maintain skin elasticity. Although
I heard that 500mg of collagen is merely only 10% of the DRV (according
to Meiji Amino Collagen), I  think this is a useful supplement for me
because:
1. I like Vitagen; I drink it everyday.
2. I don’t have
a very good intake of collagen, since I don’t eat fish skin. I’ve only
taken to eating beef tendons recently beacause I know it’s potentially
good for my body.
3. It’s relatively cheap, compared to pill supplements, or as
mentioned, Meiji Amino Collagen.
