habits of travel.

i guess you could say im feeling just a tad overwhelmed right now.  with covering asia.  the phone calls and the constant stress of the market with political instability alongside natural disasters, im overwhelmed and a little unsure as to what to do next.  im probably also not sleeping very well and never feel properly rested to take that deep breath and start at the top of the list.  cross off the tasks one by one.  i need someone to work with me.  i want to share my book.  or i need to move. and i need to be happy for things to work out the right way.  and the only way to be happy abroad is to somehow develop local friends. local tastes.  and so when im away, there a few things i like to do to immerse myself in the native culture. 1. eat their local fast food.  (or eat the native mcdonalds menu (ie rice burger).  lotteria bulgalbi burger.  it's like a teriyaki mcrib.  fries pretty standard.  im surprised i didn't see any rice pattie buns on the menu though.  2. with the popularity of convenience stores such as 711 and familiy mart, the cheap ready to go snacks very quickly pin point the innate palate of the masses. all of asia is obsessed with an aisle of fully loaded instant noodles.  rice balls and sushi derivatives are also pretty standard.  korea however boasts its own section of ready to go sausages and fish cake on a stick, while its microwavable rice dishes cover kimchi fried rice and jajangbap.  makes sense.  3. i dont let white people cut my hair.  and since they say i look korean, i look forward to getting a haircut in korea.  jenny house was recommended by my hotel.  tae hee my stylists didnt speak a lick of english.  when she sat me down, she gave me a style book.  pointed at won bin. "korean style. BEST".  i said "OK. BEST. KOREAN STYLE. OK"
