nobu sucks. other than the tribeca zipcode, the swagger and hype of the reknowned deniro joint has become a run down diner version of past success. the woodsy tree interpretation decor along with the nouveaux japanese cuisine are now mainstream and things like jalapeno sashimi with ponzu and wagyu with chives and sesame oil or your humdrum fried rock shrimp are now made better by the newer, cheaper, younger, mainstream trendy local sushi restaurants.
i just came back from texas. had sushi raku. it was good. just get the fish. one big plate of sashimi. extra uni (which they ran out of). extra shrimp. extra otoro (which i'll get next time). and anago! pass on the yakitori. and texas sized portions. nice~
