slowly but surely, im understanding the local slang of 5 different ethnicities, languages, cultures and slangs all fully meshed into one. it's to the point where when asked the definition of local slang and it's origin, people have no clue what the original language is. "hokkien? malay?...i'm not really sure", and as with all cultures the slang terms to poke fun at one owns culture are most amusingly harsh and so intermixed that the singlish really is quite unique. i definitely do have some trouble deciphering the humor at times, more specifically on cyberchat where sarcasm is already hard enough to detect. but this week i've been called chee goh pek and learned the meaning of malaysian boleh!
wah laooo eh!
u know that $$ learning curve whenever u go to a new place? well my biggest swindle factor has been my excessive phone bills from singtel and fareastone. and after 4 months of jaw dropping bills, i've finally cut the bill down 300 sgd on singtel and 12k NT on fareastone. think of how many extra bottles of j dubs that is...when u start making life relative to value of fermented beverages, it puts a whole new spin on "bottom line". i asked haidah today "have u ever seen me in a bad mood?" to which she replied "when u don't drink, u look sad"
