beijing international airport terminal 3

beijing airport is notorious for missed flights. delayed flights. anything that has to do with not getting on your flight, beijing airport will give you a half hearted excuse as to why you can't fly today.  doesn't help when there is only one flight a day to taipei.  and doesn't help when there was a typhoon the weekend before.  and doesn't help me that my travel agent was on vacation.  and i finally got a flight out on thursday night.  (which ended up being delayed).  and that meant just one more night of debauchery.  i spent the day searching 秀水街 and 王府井 for a cell phone case only to come up empty handed.  but i did eat a delicious gyro.  middle eastern flavors make the skewers good, so it dawned on me that the gyro might be pretty tasty and it was.  and i went to paris baguette to wash it all down with an 아이스 아메리카노.

and so on the last day...we visited the google beijing office.  which due to censorship has become a think tank.  how they make money, the sales they pitch to bewilders me considering there are minimal hits for google with baidu taking all of the market share.  and googles corporate culture of a relaxed smart granola work environment that i've witnessed in nyc (thanks to amanda)...was seemingly flawed.  a cafeteria that wanted to serve everything seemed to come up short.  tho the dan dan noodles were good, and the campus that was in a huge tech park and the setting seemed laid back but with the umbrella of chinese culture, with the competitive chinese mindset, and with the undeniable passive aggressive tone of management, how could one compare this office to the motif google has strived so hard to achieve?  it doesn't.  poor cloe.  poor iris.

which google office has duck tongue for lunch!
