it's nice to go to these charity yuppie chic parties every so often. it gives you a grander scale of what is going on in the world. a good chance to get out of your normal network (even one as multifaceted as mine) to be immersed in the vanity of charitable mingling where people in singapore leave the slippers and shorts at home, spend time to wash the humidity out of the hair and take the extra air conditioned cab ride just to maintain composure at the lavish ambience of the rented venue. fide group holds these events 2x a month, so with me, not so secretly yearning to be part of the "paris-hilton sex-tape elite" of singapore, am going to latch onto alice to find my way as a regular, hopefully utilizing my charm and "newbie" status to get laid a few times off the bat....and if all else fails, at least we'll be in the tabloids! SINGAPORE TATLER, HERE I COME.
i would assume this place held the better looking with thicker padded wallets portion of spores talent pool, in which case, as much as i'd like to bash lee kwan yew's lack of genetic aesthetic selection, this crop isn't half bad. age demographic a bit vast, but i was admittedly happy just to be in a sea of groomed, decent looking people. i felt under dressed as i presumed incorrectly that the generally casual spore crowd would come lacking style (as usual) and dressed for global warming. however, everyone was fully decked out in theme traditional chinese attire or blazers and cocktail dresses. the girls seemed to have gone out of their way to get their hair done. the guys sported the russell wong look comfortably. canapes and amuse bouches were replaced by dumplings and mini peking duck wraps eaten out of chinese take-out cartons. detail oriented fide group catered to the upscale and was rewarded with returns on the auction and casino night returns. 450K for diamond earings. 85k for a necklace.....etc etc....
