obviously i find many things about korea very peculiar. and it's bewildering to me how much they love their lamyeon. it's not only that your typical person loves eating instant noodles so much they crave it on a regular basis, they eat it at least a few times a week, and it actually replaces a meal. it's that the actual package of instant noodles makes it to the restaurant menus as a highly ordered item. i hypothesize that poor nations develop their own plebeian cuisine as sustenance, hence the habitual need for cheap fried and frozen noodles with msg seasoning packets, the survival tactics of fermenting and pickling of kimchi. i might also guess that the 2 year mandatory military service for men has turned all korean men into the stereotypical mold of "korean ahjussi style". eating squating, eating slurping, eating squating, grunting, groaning, and basically honing their palates where food is just something to fill their stomachs. but how does that explain how women love instant noodles just as much? haha, in this culture, thats a rhetorical question.
"Korea's love for ramyeon also makes me laugh when ethnnationalist-minded Koreans pat themselves on the back by extolling the health virtues of Korean food. You might just be better off eating the styrofoam bowl it came in. " - online somewhere...
