i was thinking about this for a while.  alice is a formal, full letter kind of person.  so is esther.  they never keep u updated with short information injections, but rather wait for that intro/middle/conclusion type letter that takes u by storm, is almost too heavy to ingest, too intricate to comprehend, and too profound for cleaning out your inbox....so you start reading it and have to end up leaving it for the rainy day when u're ready to respond...3 weeks later.  so it's not only that technology has brought the world of acronyms into our lives, but it's also abridged the the well thought out approach of our fullest relationships.  it's brought about a lot of 'en whim' reactions and bottom line instigations...rather than a more fully thought out approach to philosphize the topic at hand.
