avril lavigne and the ICRT ALL-STARS

ishot-2

"HEY HEY YOU YOU I DONT LIKE YOUR GIRLFRIEND!"

a few years back, i bought a john mayer dvd and while having a beer and watching the concert i spewed beer on the floor. during "body is a wonderland", the camera focused on the audience and next to a hugging couple stood two scrawny, pale, freckle faced redheads - swaying and singing (as if to each other) "I'll never let your head hit the bed...Without my hand behind it"

from that moment on, when @ certain concerts, i check for live dvd tapings before singing along to the show. and if it weren't that avril lavigne was in zhong shan stadium in taiwan, i wouldn't be caught dead singing "why'd you have to go and make life so complicated"...HOWEVER, she was in taiwan. and i, at one point, prior to the "girlfriend" single, loved avril, so i sang sang sang along cuz she was good live. she, unlike taiwanese popstars, no matter how gassed from dancing and screaming, doesn't go out of tune.

it's interesting to see how the local marketing managers advise the set list of a foreign artists for that respective region. the show started sans opening act with skinny jeaned, chubby back dancers break dancing and avril skipping around the stage for "girlfriend", her biggest hit in taiwan. her encore also started with a rendition of "hey hey you you" only as an intro for sk8terboi. Surrounded by ICRT DJ's, my memory of the concerts midsection consists of heineken, sporadically singing with her (when i'm gone, complicated, happy ending) but most notably pitching out a plethora of AWESOMELY RADICAL ideas of starting an ICRT BAND with EMILY @ the helm for the sole purpose of 'MORE COWBELL'

avril was cool. she showed off her musicianship with drumming, guitaring, piano-ing, dancing etc but seriously....MOVE OVER AVRIL, HERE COMES ICRT AND THE FUNKY BUNCH. im not even talking about battle of the bands for next year, but it's time to put together this group of all-stars for the next big event. imagine this.

jockey joe on drums
emily david on cowbell
TJ on guitar (tight black jeans, high tops, a fitted shirt with a tie - greenday meets all american rejects look)
harry on bass (it's gotta be a standup bass with the anarchy sticker on the front)
eric tu (in a unitard doing interpretive dance for the visual effects video behind)
louisa "avril" lee-vigne on vocals
