it's no lie that im a hater, but then again every person who's talented doesn't need to be asskissed up the wazzooo. and (i used to ass kiss musicians but now that im getting better at music and realize that they are a dime of dozen, u need a stronger edge, stronger showmanship live...so how about a more opinionated review of the show? I LOVE JOHN LEGEND. which is why it's ok for me to be a bit critical, i think. first off, i completely missed corrine bailey rae. thank you EFFIN KEN, for taking you sweet arse time. j/k. and as much as i didnt care to see corrinne perform (because it seemed like it would be a sedated set) i was completely furious when i heard her come out for a duet with jon. her voice is innocently bright. it cut through even what i felt was sub par msg acoustics, her baby power vocals glided and blanketed the room. best of all, bailey rae and legend make sweet music love. their voices blend perfectly together. johns airy lower register matching corrines innocently light xylephonic vocals....i'll loook up what song they did together.

so, i love jon legend, and i love his songs even if i think the melody is kind of ehh, but it's the 'coolness' of his voice that makes the song, makes the artist. but a man and a piano and a less than rock/rap set list can't seem like a super EXCITING show could it? esp if it's not an intimate enough venue. either that, or not many people can really take over a crowd with just a voice and piano (i can only guess billy joel and elton john and alicia keys can do it). he opened with a heaven only knows medley and it was just exciting to see him come out pimped in a white suit jammin the piano and blowin into the mic. but as the show moved on, and his songs have him singing in his airy lower register most of the time, it was hard to hear his voice above the instrumental and specifically the bass. u could hear little runs here and there when he's singing over the tune. BUT, what really rocked house was when the lights dimmed and the spotlights came on, just him and the grand piano. (where did my baby go) where u could fully hear every dangle dip and twist of his voice with the clean sound of the keys. and that's when he won over me, then bringing up the songs into its bridge, coda's and freestyling and banging on the piano. now, thats when i felt his showmanship was at its apex (well, he did bring a big black woman on stage to dance with and sing to, that won the crowd) however, then i realized, how many songs could he do like this for a solo show? then i realized that the show producer needed some new ideas, some REMIXES. he definitely didn't have enough "diffferent than the album" live songs and with a voice as cool as his, i would have loved to have heard some different renditions of his songs (he did do one reggae version of something which was subpar)...not to mention, i wanted to hear some COVERS. he's a fairly new artist, so people aren't going to know all his songs, and singing new songs for the encore doesn't end the night strong. bring in a cover to reamp the crowd, then top it off with ur HIT. it'd be soo awesome if he went out of rnb and redid bonjovi -always, david bowie, did up an rnb version of the doors, and even if u wanted to keep it motown, cover some algreen, go old school with gaye and temptations, and maybe even go GOSPEL??? duet with corrinne!! man that would be dope.

i dont think my musical abilities can compete with the people who really rock and jam. i think i could try and practice at this age, but i just dont have that feel like they do, technically. HOWEVER, i've been told that id have the potential to manage and be an agent and produce. in this sense and after tonights show, maybe it holds some water. i think my intuition of the wants of the hoi polloi is pretty accurate, all stemming from that loud mouthed overly friendly/flirty personna. wuttya say?
