alex (double entendre)

...about 10 minutes into the concert janie asks me "so what do you think?"...

and amidst the sea of screaming girls i replied "i'm jealous"

to be honest, i'm back home after the 3 hour concert (and after stopping for soy milk and steamed dumplings) and i'm not quite as amped as the previous chinese pop event i attended (david tao)...it was medley after medley of a decade of hits showcasing his undeniable musical talent right alongside his palsey dancing handicapp....there was a reason i vowed not to go to a sedated concert again after sarah machlachan and for that same reason i found myself yawning during his first ballad medley....and that's pretty much why i don't really know what to write about the show....

the stage was in the shape of backwards lowercase "e" with the upper gap used as a recess to hold the band, while the lower pocket held part of the standing section, no other decorations to the set other than large vertical lcd's across the back which displayed some funky digital screen saver demo about 10% of the time because leehom's face was plastered across them the rest of the time...there were some pyrotechnics to open the show, hip hop, b-boy, and chinese opera/circus dancers matched his "chink'ed out" east meets west beats...Even though he just might have the most musical ability of any artist in taiwan, it wasn't JUST about the music, yes he destroyed the piano, yes he blasted the guitar, yes he belted the violin, yes he smashed the drums, yes he even brought out the er-gu, but all in all the teenage girl audience just wanted to see him sing those love ballads that make him the popstar he is....one mic and one sweaty almost topless leehom was all there was to it....

one man, one mic, one guitar.....this is my dream....

it almost became somewhat of a 1 man talent show when he busted out the drums.....

i might be even more jealous of these pictures.....

lee hom the asian popstar could be compared to the usher/justin of taiwan, it's even more perfectly fitting that he stays in falsetta about 75% of the time (and i'd like to add that his voice resonates much clearer and brigther in the ball constricting range making his 'homo' rumors even more believable)....but as the genetic ratio would have it...he has trouble completing the 3rd piece to his triple threat, dancing, (singing/playing instrument being the other 2), he dances as well as the asian chromosomes would allow it....energetically flapping....

mayday came out....i thought they were cool as hell....
